LA-based musician Wallice shares a new single and video ‘Little League’ and confirms her forthcoming second EP, out this Spring via her new label home of Dirty Hit (the 1975, Beabadoobee, Rina Sawayama.) The indie pop wunderkind has swiftly become one of Gen Z’s most exciting new voices for her tongue-in-cheek, self-effacing anthems that capture the anxiety of growing up. Set to appear at The Great Escape 2022, Wallice also announces her first London headline show on May 17th at The Lexington, tickets are on sale this Thursday. She is currently on tour in support of Still Woozy, playing to sold-out rooms across the US.

On the new track, Wallice says “Little League is about my love of games (board and video) and my competitiveness. I also think people can relate to the fear of not being liked. I can hang out with a single friend for 5 days straight, and still each time they leave I feel like- “oh no, they probably hate me because of something silly like being too competitive during a video game. This song was influenced by “Weird Fishes/ Arpeggi” by Radiohead, a band I grew up listening to.”

The video sees Wallice and her producer marinelli star alongside fellow LA musicians spill tab, Mykey and mazie.

Wallice comments; “I immediately reached out to director Philip Stilwell when I came up with a concept for this video. He did such an amazing job when we had previously worked on my ‘Hey Michael’ video last year. I knew he could execute the right balance of serious and funny within a short video. I knew I wanted to be playing tennis, baseball, and a board game in the video, but he came up with the idea of translating the board game to real life – when we land on each space it launches a mini game (kind of like my favorite video game Mario Party). I’m so happy with how the video turned out and I’m so glad I got to have my fellow artist friends Mykey, spill tab, mazie, and my long time producer/best friend marinelli playing my worthy opponents in the video. I like to write about being an imperfect protagonist; being someone who is wrong and lets their faults show. I hope that comes through here as well.”

After picking up her first instrument at age 6, Wallice started writing songs in middle school and later played in her high school band, inspired by the lyricism of Thom Yorke, Lana Del Rey and the punky irreverence of Weezer and No Doubt. She also modeled and acted (once appearing in an episode of Frasier) throughout adolescence, with her former actress mother supporting all creative pursuits. A proud college dropout, she attended the New School in New York City for Jazz Vocal performance for a year before moving back to California and connecting with marinelli, who helped her hone the wistful indie pop style that led to her rise.In December 2020,

Wallice released her lo-fi debut single ‘Punching Bag’, which immediately found supporters in Zane Lowe and Steve Lamacq and gained top placement on Spotify’s ‘Lorem’ playlist. This was followed by a whirlwind 2021, fuelled by the success of her debut EP Off the Rails. The project led to Wallice signing with Dirty Hit, selling out her first headline shows, embarking on her first tour, and finding champions in the likes of Vogue, New York Times, The FADER, BBC Radio 1, Pigeons & Planes, and NME, where she was named as part of the NME 100 for 2022.
