SPIELBERGS
Oslo trio share anthemic new single Brother of Mine –
out March 24th
Band sign to Big Scary Monsters and Fysisk Format ahead of more music in 2022
Previous press for Spielbergs:
“Physical intensity, gooey emotions, and devotionals that are joyous.” – Pitchfork
“Big, heart-on-sleeve guitar-rock with a go-for-broke anthemic intensity.” – Stereogum
“Joyfully ragged, emo-esque, power-pop songs.” – The Guardian
“Fans of fuzzy, propulsive cathartic jams, are about to have a new favourite band.” – Kerrang!
“One of the most exciting bands of the year.” – The i Paper
Following on from the success and rich promise of their debut LP This Is Not The End in 2018, Oslo’s Spielbergs are back, armed with a brand-new single Brother of Mine and news of signing to two new labels – the respected renowned indies – Big Scary Monsters and Fysisk Format.
The new single sees the band back with a proper bang – all soaring heart-on-sleeve indie/punk rock delivered with their trademark frenetic heartfelt 1000mph energy yet tinged with a slight melancholic darkness.
Of the track, Mads Baklien (vocals/guitar) says: “ The main melody and idea of Brother of Mine have been with us in the band for several years. We have tried on many different choruses, bridges, arrangements and what not, but it was difficult to pull through. But now we feel like we finally managed to make it work. It has this kind of dark, sad eeriness to it that we really like, at the same time as still being a classic Spielbergs type pop- punk/emo/rock song.”
The new track is the first of some exciting new music to come in 2022 and the band’s first on their two new labels, respected and renowned Big Scary Monsters (UK/RoW) and Fysisk Format (Scandinavia).
Christian Løvhaug (Drums) explains: “ It’s an honour to sign with BSM and Fysisk Format and become part of a family that share many of the same values as ourselves. We feel very comfortable and at home. We’re proud to be included on their list of amazing bands and music, including those that have shaped our own musical taste and inspired us in many ways. Our relationship with Fysisk Format goes way back. Even before the label was founded their record shop Tiger was (and still is) the record store for every DIY, punk, HC, alt-rock seeking kid in Norway!”

ABOUT SPIELBERGS
Spielbergs are Oslo based trio – Mads Baklien (vocals/guitar), Christian Løvhaug (drums), Stian Brennskag (bass). The band have been likened to the likes of The Replacements, Japandroids, Cloud Nothings, Titus Andronicus in recent times but also sit out on their own with their distinctive heart-on-sleeve indie/punk rock/emo.
Gaining critical acclaim for their debut album This Is Not The End in 2018, the band received praise from the likes of Pitchfork, Stereogum, Kerrang, Q and the i-Paper as well as being lauded by The Guardian and NME as ‘ones to watch’. The band also garnered support on the airwaves from BBC1, BBC6 Music, and Amazing Radio.
The band did not disappoint live either (Kerrang describing the band as “consistently exquisite”) undertaking a series of knock-out live shows. They also hit up several festival stages including Hit The North, Live At Leeds and 2000 Trees.
The band will return with new music in 2022.
