Millionyoung– ‘Variable’ (Rix/Old Flame Records)

Fans of lazy beats and sonic soundscapes favoured by Washed) Out and Neon Indian with a dash of the lazier moments of professional saddos New Order and Toro y Moi with the under produced warmth of Ariel Pink but without the weirdness – look here!

Florida’s one man band Mike Diaz, or Millionyoung has made an album of chillgaze, where the beats are designed to go with the very last remnants of the days sun on a scorching day.

The mournful backwards guitars are taken over by deliciously shoegaze sounding guitars and warm but sad synths on ‘Grow’, the pace never threatens to break into a sweat, in fact, the lyric on highlight ‘Nao’; ‘I wanna get stoned and stay right here’ is very telling, on this outing, its obvious all this guy likes to do is get wrecked and play with synthesizers and when the end result sounds so good, why stop him? 8.2/10
