British-Turkish viral star Selin explores confusing relationships in “Cool”

Written by the Istanbul-born, London-based artist with Gil Lewis (Blithe, BEKA, Aleyna Tilki) and Micky Blue (Tiësto, TWICE, TaeYeon), “Cool” is a slow-burning number which faces the ensuing emotional chaos of trying to remain on good terms with an ex in expertly crafted pop hooks: “The act of letting go and moving on from the past can be challenging and this song is kind of a bittersweet anthem highlighting those situations,” Selin said.
The bilingual, free-spirited creative made her official Warner Music debut in 2021 with the punchy and slick synth stylings of “Gidip Gel” (1M+ streams); which Selin then transformed into a fully English remake in “Give and Take”, receiving key support from Brooke Reese’s Apple Music show.
Opening for artists like Donna Missal as well as a stadium tour around Turkey performing alongside Turkish icon Sertab Erener, Selin aims to sprinkle what she calls her “Turkish spice” into all aspects of her career, as seen in her unique viral content where she covers Turkish classics with translated English lyrics.
Originally born in Istanbul, Selin’s family relocated to the UK when she was just one; her cross-cultural experiences laying the foundations for her globalised musical appreciations. Raised on a diet of rock legends like Pink Floyd, Santana and Van Morrison and later discovering Y2K pop queens like Britney and Christina Aguilera, Selin merges these founding inspirations but teaches herself how to put her own stamp on them, while always taking an authentic, ‘no filter’ approach to her songwriting.
