In just under a month (August 25th) Hannah Georgas will release her new LP, I’d Be Lying If I Said I Didn’t Care on Lucy Rose’s Real Kind Records. Preceded by the release of singles like “This Too Shall Pass”, which Stereogum called “an instant classic,” and the lead single “Better Somehow” which received a best of the week write up from The New York Times, the album is the follow up to her Aaron Dessner-produced 202 LP All That Emotion, the most critically-acclaimed release of her career to date.
Last month, Georgas announced an extensive run of North American touring in support of Broken Social Scene, and today she is sharing a new run of UK dates and sharing another preview of the record, a track called “Home“.
“I feel like the word home is really emotionally loaded and can mean so many different things to different people,” Georgas explains. “This song is about dealing with feelings of being lost and unsettled, and comparing that to others who seem to have it figured out. It’s about a feeling of estrangement and exclusion, only made even more polarising when you’re confronted with the opposite experience amongst your peers or in the media.”

While Georgas has a rich history of collaboration, her new LP is her first release where she has taken on the lead producer role. Joining her is partner Sean Sroka (of Ten Kills The Pack) in a co-production capacity. Other musicians that contributed along the way include James McAlister on drums (one of Sufjan Steven’s regular confidantes), Graham Walsh (whose synth and bass regularly peppers records by the likes of Holy Fuck and Metz), and Gabe Wax (Soccer Mommy’s go-to collaborator, but has also worked with War on Drugs, Kurt Vile, and Spoon) who contributed his drum programming skills.
Ultimately though, the Canadian sought to take the reins herself, taking back control of her own destiny, and cutting out too much outside influence. Recorded in Toronto with a treasure trove of analogue equipment and a work ethic that left no idea unturned, I’d Be Lying If I Said I Didn’t Care is a wonderful record by a songwriter at the real peak of her powers.
“This record is a big step for me from a creative standpoint and it feels like a true representation of where my writing and head is at,” says Georgas. “This album means a lot to me and I’m really proud of it. It feels like a long time coming but also feels like it wouldn’t have come together without all of the time and experiences I’ve had leading up to this.”
