Sainté shares video for new single, ‘Stop Crying’

Sainté has today dropped a brilliant video for new single, ‘Stop Crying’. The hotly-tipped Leicester rapper recently returned with fan track and Cash Cobain collaboration ‘Air4’, kickstarting a new era to follow his widely acclaimed independent EPs (Vacation, Out the Blue, and Local MVP) plus tours with the likes of Denzel Curry and Kenny Beats. The ‘Stop Crying’ video shows off new sides of Sainté. Humble but flexing on record, the track’s accompanying video is a surreal, darkly comic journey reminiscent of domestic horrors like Jordan Peele’s ‘Get Out’: from the awkward meeting with a girl’s parents to the fantasy of a more opulent style, and unleashing your potential. ‘Stop Crying’ is about being 100% yourself and owning it, a spirit personified by the Leicester local in embodying the city’s spiritual mascot, The Fox.

The next-up of UK Rap, Sainté is a curious, charismatic and disarmingly humble 24-year-old with the presence (and sporting stature) of a future superstar. Having bubbled far beyond the East Midlands across his formative releases, today Sainté has emerged the front-runner of a new wave of artists connecting the worlds of music, fashion, and community. He first moved to Britain as an infant, and started to rap between his then-trajectory into professional basketball. As the lockdowns closed that window, another opened: Sainté’s music blew up instead, with viral hit ‘Champagne Shots’ earning him his first independent disc and a surprise call whilst working at Nando’s leading to his work soundtracking a show from the late Virgil Abloh. Having gone on to star in his own fashion campaigns for the likes of New Balance, Burberry and Jean Paul Gaultier, Sainté ultimately strives to stand at that cultural intersection where music, style or sport need not stay in their own lane. Today, he’s inspired by polymathic talents ranging from 50 Cent and Skepta to Sade (so much so he named a song after her). Sainté just wants to do more, see more, and feel more.

As suggested by ‘Stop Crying’, Sainté is ready to reveal more of himself, too. Fresh from a cameo on the Drake tour in Zack Bia’s Learn To Fly project – where Sainté guests alongside Lil Yachty, JID and Don Toliver – he has already collaborated with peers ranging from Knucks, A2 and Miraa May on music that’s as conversationally cocksure as it is introspectively candid. Although the potential is global, the future for Sainté is also right next-door (“there’s no way I’ve come from this sort of background and there’s not more of me here, deserving of opportunities”). Sainté’s ascendance is rooted in a love of locality that feels hopeful, authentic, and marks him out as an undeniable One to Watch for the year ahead.
