Birthday Problem share stunning new video for ‘An Maighdean Mhara’

‘An Maighdean Mhara’ is the second track from Birthday Problem, a collaborative electronica project from Matt Harris (HAVVK, Maria Kelly, DYVR) and Rocky O’Reilly (ASIWYFA, Oppenheimer, Malibu Shark Attack). The single features Róisín Nic Ghearailt (formerly of M(h)aol) on guest vocals.

“‘An Maighdean Mhara’ is the first original song I have ever written in Irish. It was something I had wanted to explore before but it took moving back to Ireland and hearing Irish in its natural setting again to actually do it. I absolutely love the rise in music as gaeilge from kneecap to Selló to Sexy Tadhg to Róis.

When I was approached about collaborating with Birthday Problem, I knew I wanted to write a track that was very queer and sexy and included the sea, one of the main reasons I moved home. As a proud Gaeilgeoir it’s extremely important to me to show that gaeilge is for gach duine. Whether you are lusting after unattainable hotties or lamenting on the Aran Islands. It has been an absolute pleasure working on the remixes with such exciting producers all over Ireland. I want music as gaeilge to be in its queer, sweaty, dance floor era.”
