After an absolute suckerpunch return last month with ‘WASSUP’ ft. JPEGMAFIA followed up with wreaking havoc at festivals around the world, Joey Valence & Brae have been turning up the heat for a reason. Today the alt/hip-hop duo announce their new album HYPERYOUTH out August 15th – and with it, they’re sharing a chaotic headfirst dive into what lies ahead with two new singles, title track ‘HYPERYOUTH’ and ‘LIVE RIGHT’. The duo also detail their plans to bring their crowd-igniting energy this year with the announcement of the first dates of their HYPERYOUTH WORLD TOUR, set to conquer London’s Shepherds Bush Empire on November 4th. While the first of their two new singles ‘HYPERYOUTH’ is every bit as ferocious and kinetic as JVB’s reputation (complete with a reference to brostep-era Skrillex), ‘LIVE RIGHT’ is a breezier, coming-of-age anthem that will make you want to count your blessings for your best friends. Together, they act as a statement of intent for an album which is capable of depth as well as staggering heights.
Speaking on the new tracks, the duo share: “These songs really encapsulate the tone and themes of the new album, but from different perspectives. Where ‘HYPERYOUTH’ is a frenetic, high energy, and sample-heavy celebration of the music and artists we continue to be inspired by, ‘LIVE RIGHT’ is anthemic and showcases the exciting-but-complicated relationship we have with growing up.”
In the three years since joining forces, Joey Valence & Brae have cemented themselves as a must-see live act and bonafide recording artists, with viral one-off singles and full-length projects like 2023’s critically acclaimed debut PUNK TACTICS (its title track was just Certified RIAA Gold) and 2024’s NO HANDS and NO HANDS (Deluxe Edition) which featured Danny Brown, Z-Trip, Ayesha Erotica and more.
In between those drops, they’ve collaborated with an eclectic mix of friends and fans including IDK, Pendulum, 6ix, ACRAZE and Apashe. With each release, JVB grow bolder, braver and louder, turning up the volume on their swag as they skillfully traverse a smash and grab collision of 90s hip-hop, drum ‘n’ bass and decades-spanning pop culture references while remaining undeniably themselves. They’re carving out their own niche with a signature sound that’s equal parts nostalgic yet futuristic, authentic and infectious while still on a mission to one day open a Cheesecake Factory in their hometown.
