Thomas is also just weeks away from his headlining US-to-EU she got a thing about tour, which kicks off on October 7 in Washington, D.C., and wraps up in London on November 18. He then dashes over to Australia to join Nessa Barrett’s Aftercare Tour. Full itinerary below.
“sore throat” is an instant reminder of Thomas’ knack for wrapping up complicated feelings in an easy-breezy sonic package. The hummable cut bops along on a grooving mix of acoustic and electric guitar, while our narrator sings of someone he once felt a deep connection to who’s left him behind without a second thought. His words tumble out ahead of the chorus, where Thomas swings between gorgeous coos and shout-sung confessions: “I miss all of your tears cried, jealous someone else is wanted / I miss the way life was back when I still your darlin.”
The “sore throat” music video brings the song’s themes to life, opening on Thomasat home, experiencing restless days and sleepless nights as he struggles with what to do with himself all alone. He picks up a guitar, does some pushups, sinks into the couch, and cracks a beer. But soon it becomes clear that he’s simply counting down the days until he can oh-so-casually call the subject of the song — it’s her birthday, and he just happened to be thinking of her.
Fans were previously treated to one other song that will feature on kids — “she got a thing about her,” an indie-fied sizzler that evokes the dizzy thrill of developing a new crush. Ahead of an interview with Thomas, Wonderland hailed the cut as “pure, carefully created songsmithery,” while United By Pop dubbed it “the perfect soundtrack… to blast in the car or on a summer road trip.” Hits Daily Double was inspired to feature Thomas in their “New & Developing Q3” lineup.
Between tours this year first supporting Joshua Bassett and later The Driver Era, Thomas has shared a series of one-off singles that speak to his gift for capturing the lonesome lows and (more often these days) the fizzy highs of young love. The tension-dripping “Beg” came with a playfully spicy video set in a ’70s-inspired love hotel. Before that came the euphorically upbeat “Sleep When We’re Dead” and, in January, the wintry folk-pop tune “Underwear.”
By now, Thomas’ devoted fans — nearly 7 million on TikTok alone — know to expect a direct line to his emotions with each new song. Last year, he shared Angel Boy, a powerful EP that traces a romantic arc from infatuation to desolation, and which features the earth-shaking piano ballad “Paper Cup” (watch the intimate visualizer HERE). That was after a pair of 2024 singles that examined the before and after, respectively, of a particularly difficult breakup: “Hearts Get Broken” and “Pretender,” which came with an appropriately dramatic music video, HERE.
All of that followed Thomas’ massive arrival in 2023, when he released his full-length project Love Me for Another Day, went on to rack up more than a quarter of a billion streams across platforms, and launched his first-ever headline tour across the US and UK — which sold out so quickly that he was upgraded to bigger venues throughout. Now, with kids on the horizon and a whole new set of tour dates, Thomas Day is poised to make his biggest splash yet.
