Zara Larsson releases new album ‘Midnight Sun’
It may be the first week of autumn, but for Zara Larsson, summer never ends. Today, the multiplatinum chart-topping global pop powerhouse releases her hotly anticipated new album, Midnight Sun.
Unapologetically unfiltered and openly vulnerable, the 10-track set ripples with personal confidence and is set to a bold mix of kaleidoscopic pop and euphoric dance that complements Zara’s every mood. Plumbing the depths of her artistry and journey over nearly 20 years in the public eye, the album is unafraid to show all sides of the 27-year-old: lovestruck, wistful, ambitious, cocky, flippant, and uncertain, often in the same breath.
Also available today is the exclusive Midnight Sun (Lisa Frank Edition) CD, a vibrant collaboration with the iconic design brand Lisa Frank, Inc. The limited-run package brings to life a dreamy, aquatic world inspired by the memes and moments that so many of Zara’s fans around the world participated in over the past year.
The album arrives as Zara approaches the finale of her arena-conquering run on Tate McCrae’s Miss Possessive Tour with back-to-back nights at Los Angeles’ Kia Forum starting tonight. As Billboard proclaimed after a two night run at New York’s Madison Square Garden, the tour has proven that Zara’s “Stateside domination seems all but certain.” With that, she’ll headline her own Midnight Sun Tour starting in Europe this autumn, set to conquer London’s OVO Wembley Arena on November 5th.
The headline tour will bring to life her most emotionally evocative and viscerally thrilling set of songs yet on Midnight Sun, which she crafted over the last year alongside songwriter Helena Gao and producers MNEK, Margo XS, and Zhone.
The previously unheard “Blue Moon” is an anthem for the hopeless romantics set to warm tones and heart-racing drum ’n’ bass rhythms — a celebration of timeless love. At the other end of the spectrum is “Hot & Sexy,” a mix of ’80s electro, ’90s house, Y2K pop, and 2010s bass music that samples Tiffany Pollard’s iconic Big Brother rant – a charged-up “no boys allowed” anthem that evolves into a hyperpop fever dream with lyrics that dig deep beneath the surface and explore autonomy. On the introspective penultimate track “Saturn’s Return,” Zara reflects on personal growth and self-discovery, embracing uncertainty with a deeper sense of self. Paired with “The Ambition” right before, which explores the double-edged nature of drive and the pressures of success in modern times, the two highlight the album’s raw honesty as they explore identity, expectations, and stepping into a new era of life.
Midnight Sun kicked off with the unabashedly rowdy “Pretty Ugly” whose Charlotte Rutherford-directed, Zoi Tatopoulos-choreographed video was nominated at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards for Best Choreography. And then there’s the transcendent title track, “Midnight Sun,” which has been viral all summer long thanks to Rutherford’s Y2K-inspired music video and Zara’s jaw-dropping vocal prowess. With cosigns from a wide array of fellow artists like Renee Rapp, PinkPantheress and Ariana Grande, the press has rallied around the track, with Rolling Stone calling it a “song-of-the-summer contender” right out of the gate. PAPER dubbed it a “shimmering pop anthem soaked in nostalgia,” while The Line of Best Fit noted its “the truest music she’s ever made”. Pitchfork, however, summed up what we are all thinking: “Midnight Sun is simply too much my shit!”
“Throughout Midnight Sun,” Zara Larsson says, “I get to just capture that total Scandinavian vibe, which is something that I have grown up with—it’s a huge part of me, my happiest memories and my saddest ones, too. A part of my soul is a Swedish summer night. This record encompasses that.”
Now, as the fires of anticipation reach a blinding blaze, Zara Larsson’s neverending Midnight Sun is, at last, here — and here to stay.
“It just feels like me—knowing myself, this album is just really, really me. And also,” Zara says with a grin, “No one can do me the way I can.”

About Zara Larsson
On her fourth studio album, Midnight Sun, Swedish pop sensation Zara Larsson had a goal: “I wanted the whole album to feel like it’s a summer night and it never ends,” she says. “A part of my soul is a Swedish summer night. This record encompasses that: how life is so beautiful it makes you cry.” Once she put together her team of collaborators — “Never Forget You” collaborator MNEK, up-and-coming producer Margo XS, and songwriter Helena Gao — the core four got to work. On day one, they made lead singles “Midnight Sun” and lead single “Pretty Ugly”, realising quickly that there was magic in the room. They felt an energy that connected them, emboldening her to be open, vulnerable, raw, and real.
Midnight Sun ripples with that same confidence and trust. Its storytelling bursts with truth and vulnerability, plumbing the depth and growth of Zara’s artistry and journey over nearly 20 years in the public eye. It’s an album unafraid to show all sides of the 27-year-old: lovestruck, wistful, ambitious, cocky, flippant, and uncertain, often in the same breath. Midnight Sun follows Zara’s first three albums (2017’s So Good, 2021’s Poster Girl, and last year’s VENUS), building upon her legacy while taking things back to her roots.“Making this album brought me back to the very beginning, my first EPs when I started making music, because it was all about having fun and just creating and speaking honestly,” she says. “The people who will love this album will love a very true part of me.”
