Ledbyher shares new single ‘What’s The Reason’
Today, Indonesian-Scottish musician and star-in-ascent Ledbyher joins the Toast roster with the release of her new single, ‘What’s The Reason’. One of the most compelling forces to emerge from the UK underground this year, the rapper, producer, singer-songwriter, poet, and video director is entirely self-taught and has fast become the talent everyone is talking about. Selling out shows across London, LA and NYC, her irreplicable magic is drawing a legion of devoted followers who include Skepta, Lola Young, AJ Tracey and Biig Piig.
‘What’s The Reason’ arrives hot on the heels of recent single ‘Remember, Remember’. With smudged basslines and warped, opulent strings, Ledbyher transforms boom-bap tradition to a distinctly future-facing sound. Punctuated with screams, the world she creates as a producer is as dark as it is infectious. ‘What’s The Reason’ is an exercise in “Lady Trap”, one of many of Ledbyher’s self-coined terms to capture the contradicting forces she’s drawn to: softness countered with crowd-igniting instinct.
Speaking on the new single, Ledbyher shares: “I tried to find a bit of shine during a heartbreak, this song lives on the lighter side of a darker time.”
Ledbyher’s influences are as world-spanning as her music: Shakespeare and English Romantic poetry; Pedro Almodóvar, Kelly Reichardt and David Lynch; Slipknot and Lana Del Rey; UK drill crews Harlem Spartans and M24. These iconoclasts, and more, have inspired Ledbyher as potently as solo wild camping trips, Ted Talks lectures, YouTube Shamans and her Grandmother Sylvia. What ties these seemingly disparate spheres together is an instinct for mood, texture, tone and storytelling.
While studying Film at University of London, Ledbyher’s music began gaining traction after producing beats for her sister Anjeli. 2023’s Cunch really put her on the radar, and, in 2024, the sisters released a joint EP, Achy. This year, she appeared on Sainté’s ‘Days In The 3’ alongside Kairo Keyz, sold out a show at Corsica Studios before storming the Jazz Café Festival in Burgess Park. Brands including Lyle & Scott and Skepta’s MAINS have included her in their campaigns, setting Ledbyher up for an auspicious 2026.
