SL releases ‘Selhurst SE25’ EP and drops stunning video to next single ‘Little Bird’ (prod. Kenny Beats)

SL has today dropped his second EP ‘Selhurst SE25’, alongside the incredible video (directed by Olly Jennings) for new single ‘Little Bird’ (produced by Kenny Beats). The project also features recent track ‘Bad Luck’ (which became SL’s fifth charting single, with co-signs ranging from JME to Drake), warmup track ‘Hit The Block’ (featuring Pa Salieu), and SL’s arrival as one of the UK’s most exciting and unpredictable young voices.

‘Selhurst SE25’ marks a new chapter for SL whilst paying homage to his South London beginnings. It’s as intimate and intriguing a snapshot of the Croydon teenager coming of age as it is to witness a young man already taking his place on the world stage. Throughout, SL’s evolution appears one that’s completely on his terms – he’s done this, after all, without even showing his face – and always ahead of the curve: his is a journey which connects the worlds of music, video, gaming, and speaks as equally to the urgency of British youth culture as it does global kingmakers like the EP’s chief producer, Kenny Beats.

There is, after all, more to the mask than meets the eye on SL. He first went viral whilst still at school, when early tracks like ‘Tropical’ and ‘Gentleman’ exploded online (all done in secret, so he could complete his GCSEs). The ambition, though, was apparent from the start. Having been raised on golden-age MCs like Wu-Tang Clan, DMX, and Jay Z, it’s SL’s multi-faceted approach – where the production, cinematic visuals and compelling storytelling all go hand-in-hand – that have seen his formative work carve out a singular lane in UK rap. Off just one EP to date (‘Everything Good Is Bad’), SL has picked up attention from collaborators ranging from Krept & Konan, Bugzy Malone, Nines, and Hardy Caprio to rap figureheads Denzel Curry and Stormzy (who shouted him out whilst headlining Glastonbury). Hundreds of millions of streams have followed, in addition to quickly-sold-out shows at London’s Oval Space. SL recently pledged a minimum donation of £100k to charitable causes empowering youth of all ethnicities in his local community in London and in his grandparents’ community in Nigeria. And whilst remaining an elusive presence, SL’s conversational, occasionally tongue-in-cheek, and always-crystal-clear flow nonetheless speaks volumes as to the fascinating young man behind the myth.

As the EP’s iconic artwork – created alongside Bafic – is testament to, ‘Selhurst SE25’ sees SL pay his respects to the neighbourhood he’ll always call home (even with the world at his feet). It’s the close of one chapter but just the beginning, you suspect, of this South London superhero story.
