Festival season is arguably all year round, however, summer really does spell something special for festivals: rain or shine, mud or dust, whether you’re rocking, rolling, moshing or two-stepping, there are ample amounts of festivals happening all across the UK.
Rough Trade: On Tour sees our team travel up and down the country, attending various events, setting up our record shop (in a somewhat tent version) with records, merchandise and exclusive signings from artists to help you while away those hours between your carefully crafted pre-planned itinerary.
Here, we wanted to show you some snapshots of best bits thus far, some stand out moments, behind the scenes with some of our favourite artists and what else we are looking forward to as this summer draws to a close.

Rough Trade: What do festivals mean to you?
Lydia Cashmore: Festivals for me are a time to get together with your friends, enjoy the sun (weather permitting), have a dance and discover new music!
When was the first time you attended Bearded Theory?
This year, I had the opportunity to work at Bearded Theory within our tent, selling records, merchandise and hosting signings with some of the artists performing. It was my first time attending, but has been on my list of ones I would like to go to.
What was a highlight of the weekend?
CMAT on the mainstage as the sun was setting! Amazing set as always.
What would you consider the most underrated stage?
Convoy Cabaret!
What was the best random encounter from the weekend?
Meeting the Aliens from Henge!
Could you summarise your experience of Bearded Theory Festival?
I loved having a chat with Lambrini Girls before their first set back following lead singer Phoebe Lunny‘s injury. CMAT was amazing; from the outfits, the choreography, and the overall crowd interaction. Considering it is on the smaller side for festivals, it was such an amazing line up. Overall a very lovely weekend.
Cheltenham Jazz Festival with

“””’This April was my first time at Cheltenham Jazz Festival and I definitely had a blast! Festivals as a whole are a great way to see as many bands as possible in only a short amount of time.
A specific highlight of Cheltenham Jazz was meeting all the wonderful bands and artists that we hosted signings with. For example, Emma Jean-Thackray, Corinne Bailey Rae, Makaya McRaven and Jack Savoretti to name a few.
The best stage at Cheltenham Jazz was the Big Top stage. It was a circus-style tent, a seated gig with good view points of the stage all around. I’m sure I will find myself back there in the future!

“So far for me the highlight of the festival season has been Getdown Services at Bearded Theory. I’ve followed them for a couple of years since first seeing them support Goldie Lookin Chain (probably the best night of my life) so seeing them leather their headline slot was great to witness.
My other stand-out performance that weekend was The Horrors – I’ve followed them for twenty years so they bring back a lot of happy memories for me. I was dying to see Jon Spencer and Bad Nerves, but I missed them as we were so busy organising a whole host of incredible signings at the Rough Trade tent.
For Green Man I’m particularly excited to see Sorry and A Place To Bury Strangers – I saw the latter in Austin last year and it was quite possibly the most violent and intense show I’ve ever seen (in the best way possible).
