‘Appropriating the glossy pop of ‘Serontonin’-era Mystery Jets, right down to singer William’s Blaine Harrison-esque simper, Shy Nature write “songs about growing up”. Though the likes of ‘Washout’ and ‘Sinking Ship’ are soft and tender, live they’re much more raw.’ – NME
‘Debut single ‘Deadly Sin‘ was enough to warrant quickfire hyperbolic quips that London might have an arena-ready group on its hands… there’s also an undying desire to create something huge.’ – This is Fake DIY
‘a recipe for indie-rock immensity’ – The Line Of Best Fit
…‘they’ve an enormous amount of melodic charm that seems desperate to break through into the public consciousness.’ – Artrocker
Shy Nature announce a string of February tour dates and the release of their new single ‘Lie Back’ on Kissability on 17th February 2014.
Shy Nature released their self-titled debut EP in September, picking up support from Phil and Alice and Jen Long at BBC Radio 1. Jen Long was so taken with the band that she is releasing their new single ‘Lie Back’ through her Kissability label on 17th February – watch a teaser video for the track here.

Back in April, on the strength of a single song, Shy Nature gained immediate supporters: described as “a flurry of starry-eyed guitars and wild-eyed choruses” (This Is Fake DIY) and an “anthem that begs for a crowd to scream along” (All Things Go), ‘Deadly Sin’ received national airplay from multiple DJs at BBC Radio 1, including Huw Stephens who made the track a BBC Introducing Discovery in June 2013. Early performances supporting The Breeders at a sold-out 2000+ capacity The Forum in June and a series of opening slots for Splashh in October serve as a statement of their similarly lofty live ambitions.
Based in north London, Shy Nature are a four-piece alternative rock band. Mixing elements of jangly sixties songwriting with the influence of more recent New York garage groups, they create timeless guitar-driven music centred lyrically around growing up. Rasping organ, revolving guitar lines and singer William’s distinctive vocals propel their energising live show.
Having originally met in Liverpool, Glasgow and Maidstone, the band came together in north London in late 2012 and established a base within one of their flats to write, rehearse and record. Often marrying darker lyrical themes with bright instrumentation, the band’s name references the silent observations that inform their songs. A strong DIY ethos has seen them self-produce much of their material – from music videos to live acoustic performances – including ‘Deadly Sin’ which was recorded at home while the restaurant below was closed.
The band are excited and focussed on what comes next and are set to hurtle into 2014 with a UK tour – details below.
