Sofie Winterson To Release New Single ‘River’

Dutch singer-songwriter Sofie Winterson is pleased to announce her new single ‘River’, set for release on 19th May via innovative indie label Magnetron Music.
Following the success of her previous offering ‘Said and Done’, the video to which received worldwide premieres on MTV Iggy, Noisey and Clash, along with showcases at this year’s SXSW and Eurosonic/Noorderslag, the young Amsterdam export is now ready to unleash her evocative follow-up.

A stirring electro-pop offering driven by looming percussion, compelling lyrics and twinkling keys, ‘River’ is drenched in layers of darkly atmospheric bass. While distinctly more shadowy in sound than ‘Said and Done’, this new single sees Sofie maintain her penchant for crafting dream-like melodies through her use of nostalgic electronic elements and haunting vocals.
Composing and penning all the material herself, Sofie, who also plays the bass alongside her bandmates Lyckle de Jong (keys), Rutger van Woudenberg (guitar) and Illan Voshol (drums), released her first EP – entitled ‘Your Eyes’ – early in 2013. The title track spurred her into the spotlight, featuring in a worldwide Braun commercial that led to an invaluable opportunity to promote her new project at all major TV and Radio stations across the Netherlands.
The accompanying video to ‘River’ sees Sofie team up with photography duo Petrovsky & Ramone, whose previous work with Vogue and M.I.A stands them in good stead for their music video debut. Taking inspiration from 60s icon Veruschka, known for her extravagant use of make-up to reflect a unique relationship with nature, the footage was shot on the volcanic island of Lanzarote, where Sofie is portrayed as a goddess-like version of the model, lending visual expression to the melancholy mood ‘River’ evokes by creating a surreal world where nature and music combine.
Having enlisted the talents of top electronic artist and fellow Dutch national, Rimer London – known for his collaborations with graphic artist Parra under the combined moniker of Le Le – Sofie is set to release her debut album ‘Wires’ through Magnetron Music later this season.
With a topical sound that infuses a folk sentimentality into atmospheric electronics, ‘River’ further proves Sofie’s undeniable ability to craft lush, absorbing music with real bite.
