Kult Country Share ‘Atlas Haze’
The B side to their new single “Trembling Moon” released 30th June 2014 on No Self Records
‘”..this will be the only music that plays on the sole radio station left when the zombie apocalypse happens and we’re all hiding in bunkers or back rooms of shopping centres'” – Guardian Guide
Never shy about their sonic ambitions, Kult Country return with the suitably spacey-sounding lunar-looking single, ‘Trembling Moon’. Recorded by Hookworms’ MJ at his Leeds Suburban Home Studios, the 7” is the second release by the Manchester-based group and first through No Self Records, stretching their sound beyond the parameters of last year’s storming motorik-driven ‘Slowburn/Amongst The Dead Forever’.
Both ‘Trembling Moon’ and b-side ‘Atlas Haze’ expand upon Kult Country’s melodic tendencies. ‘Trembling Moon’ pushes Yousif’s vocals to the forefront, atop a percussion section that takes more influence from breaks and hip-hop than it does the pounding rigidness of what they’ve come to be known for. If the groups live shows still burn with a skewed but nevertheless distinctly raw rock & roll sense of abandonment, then ‘Trembling Moon/Atlas Haze’ is the unlocking of another hitherto unknown part of their arsenal. Kult Country, it seems, are a group who’re only just beginning to reveal their true selves.
