FLAMINGODS SHARE NEW SONG AND VIDEO FOR ‘VIMANA’
NEW ALBUM HYPERBOREA RELEASED 21ST JULY ON SHAPE RECORDS
UK AND EU TOUR STARTS TOMORROW
Flamingods have shared a brand new song ‘Vimana’ and an accompanying video directed by Niall Trask. It’s taken from their new album Hyperborea, due 21st July on Shape Records.

“I had access to a traditional Cambridge punt which I’d been working on for years between film endeavours, and wanted to put the pirate-like Flamingods in it and shoot a performance. Somehow it took around 5 months before we actually got around to shooting, by which point Kamal had to leave the UK. My solution (for the video, not his Visa issues!) was to put a green screen on the boat and place Kamal’s floating head on the boat, sort of like the big face from Power Rangers”, says Trask of the visuals.

“So, in freezing December, still spaced out after a day or two after I’d spent 2 weeks in quarantine on a medical trial I met the UK-based segment of the band in Camden, with dry ice and various objects to film with. In the cafe next to us, smiling and watching, was local resident Tim Burton (seriously), with my housemate punting us along, we quickly left Camden (to avoid any awful indie band video clichés) and headed West on the boat until sunset. I approached post-production like a child, first coming to terms with After Effects.”
Previously, Flamingods shared a video for the title track of their new album, which was shot by band member Charles Prest in Kathmandu, Nepal

Flamingods is a five piece experimental band originally started by Rasool in late 2009 as a bedroom project, now comprising of Kamal Rasool, Prest, Sam Rowe, Karthik Poduval and Craig Doporto.

The new album was written after new Visa laws forced Kamal out of the UK. As such, the album deals with themes of identity, belonging and alienation whilst also day dreaming of leaving to foreign far away lands such as the mythical island of Hyperborea. The album was made with none of the band members in the same room, sending audio files back and forth across the internet.
