Still in the glow from the acceptance of Electronica / Art-pop debut single ‘Josef’ which turned multiple heads, Berlin Berlin return with their emotive song of faith and devotion ‘Be Here. heartfelt electronica with a little more thought and purpose is normally welcome at WG. There’s little doubt that Berlin Berlin’s star is rising, just wondering how fast that process goes, I mean slamming a decent cover of a cult classic, ‘Brilliant Minds’, one of Stiff Records final salvos, is always worthwhile, but a dangerous game for the Manchester 3 piece, two songs in and you’re reaching for a cover?

But the main focus should be drawn to the healthier. ‘Be Here’ which is a good single that should do the band favours, although I have read that Berlin Berlin mantra is ‘dark beauty on epic scale’ fair dues.

I dare say the so called “transformative, shimmering rework” of Furniture‘s 1986 classic ‘Brilliant Mind’ that may receive ay least equal attention. Early days granted, but I thought most bands would be full of creative vigor, trying to carve out their own creative identity, it seems the minimal song drip-feed is the case. Not enough ventured. Still the band show signs of promise. 7.2/10
