IBEYI ANNOUNCE NEW RLR REMIX OF ‘RIVER’

EXTEND WORLDWIDE TOUR

Following last months’ news of their new single ‘River’ (taken from their now critically acclaimed debut album), today Ibeyi release an exclusive remix of the track by Richard Russell under the guise of his ‘RLR’ project.

RLR is a new musical project helmed by Richard Russell (who produced Ibeyi’s eponymous debut album) He recently collaborated with Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry to create ‘I Am Paint’ a single that is currently grabbing headlines with the unusual methods applied to getting a copy. Buying the single didn’t require money, instead opting for a system of barter. Fans were invited to make anything they desire and exchange it for a hand-painted vinyl.

Meanwhile, Ibeyi recently made their UK live debut with a sold out show at London’s Bush Hall, followed by a sell out North American tour. They have now extended their global tour well into the summer. Full listings below:

Naomi and Lisa-Kainde Diaz are daughters of the late Cuban percussion Anga Diaz. Naomi plays percussive instruments, the Cajon and the Batas, while Lisa plays piano. Together the twins have learned the songs of their father’s culture, Yoruba.

Yoruba travelled from West Africa to Cuba with slavery in the 1700s. The Yoruba people have the highest twinning rate in the World, and twins occupy an important position within Yoruba culture. Ibeyi is pronounced “ee-bey-ee” and translates as “Twins” in Yoruba.

Ibeyi sing in English and Yoruba, and have created a minimalist sound that merges elements of their heritage with their natural love of modern music as teenagers grown up in Paris, citing artists such as James Blake and King Krule amongst their wide range of influences.
