FLYNN ANNOUNCES LONDON HEADLINE SHOW AND DATES WITH BEN HOWARD
Aero Flynn, a.k.a. Wisconsin native Josh Scott, has just announced that he will be releasing his debut self-titled album via Memphis Industries on 6th July.
The Aero Flynn album has been years in the making. Scott was part of the same Eau Claire scene that spawned Bon Iver but, with his band Amateur Love on the cusp of breaking through, he was afflicted with a mysterious autoimmune disease affecting his kidney and, whilst suffering from crippling untreated depression, he went underground.
Refusing to let Scott go without a fight, Vernon eventually managed to coax him out of hibernation by establishing a label on which to reissue the one and only Amateur Love album ever made. This was the spark; Scott’s interest was piqued and he began writing and recording what would become Aero Flynn’s deeply personal self-titled debut. With the help of Vernon plus Bon Iver players Mike Noyce, Sean Carey, Rob Moose and CJ Camerieri, guitarist Matt Sweeney, pedal steeler Ben Lester, and Solid Gold’s Adam Hurlburt.
Moving from layers of atmospheric composition lead by Scott’s ghostly vocals and shrewdly executed lo-fi percussion to a heady mix of glitchy electronics and cavernous psych-jams, the album swirls, swells, and evolves beyond expectation. On ‘Crisp’ the sincerity of Scott’s husk fits alongside ‘Dk/Pi’s cosmic groove whilst the frequent fret squeaks that define ‘Twist’ seem to have been created by someone from a bleak future age, who grew up on a lunar outpost listening to Robert Wyatt and Thom Yorke’s The Eraser; “lyrically ‘Plates2’ sums up the record,” Scott explains. “It says everything in finite detail as to what I’m trying to put out there… it also establishes the vibe of the record; the kinetic movements, progressions, and ambiguities that lie ahead.”
