Airstream Futures – Le Feu Et Le Sable
“Back in 2017 Airstream Futures released their debut album, ‘Spirale Infernale’, gaining many plaudits, following this, it was great for Little Rocket Records to release their first 7” single, ‘If I and PR Nightmares’, by Airstream Futures but we couldn’t wait to have their second album launched and here we have ‘Le Feu Et Le Sable'”.
Physically, the new album looks great, in lush transparent orange/yellow vinyl, the LP from the off, cones across both warm and edgy through these stereo speakers. `
‘Le FeuEt Le Sable’ begins with song ‘Cemetery Sparrow’ which goes through the colours in weekend fashion, but it’s a lot deeper than just that, “A tale of ‘Cemetery Sparrow’ is about experiencing the unrelenting assault of suicidal thoughts when you’re depressed. It’s like a damn bird outside your window chirping at 4 a.m. that won’t stop. The idea sprang from a collaboration with Mike (Soucy, Drummer) of collective experiences with depression, annoying birds, and a walk through an old cemetery.”
Equalled by the more pointed sounds, also with lyric content of ‘Strangers and Fiction’ is another notably honest, powerful and closer to home than many would credit.
‘Stubborn Bones’ sounds suitably front footed, whereas ‘Brighter Blues’ and ‘Beauty Blind’ make for a well-received mid-set choice section with enough invention here and there to keep the troops happy.
‘Architect’ sounds good, unsure just how many crowds it this song has entertained crowds so far, but it feels well-rehearsed at the least. ‘Blue Light District’ a song of wonder where she is now, ‘Faster Than You Know’ brings an effective close to the proceedings.
I feel there is a fir about left in the tank, for Airstream Futures but ‘Le Feu Et Le Sable’ album is good mana for most, as it works for me. Typical really, already isolated here on Professor’s medical advice and perhaps more so by the fact they are a Chicagoan based band, but I and doubtless others would really like to see them live, 7.8/10
