Album Review: Girls – ‘Father Son, Holy Ghost’

Hailing from San Francisco Girls 2nd full album and 3rd record ‘Father Son, Holy Ghost’ is an eclectic mix of styles and genres that bleed into each other to create a beautiful, breezy record.
Opening track ‘Honey Bunny’ is the Beach Boys on Prozac, all bouncy vocal harmonies and surf guitars. ‘Die’ cranks up the guitars with a Led Zep alike riff before dissolving into dreamy shoegaze.
Largely ‘Father Son, Holy Ghost’ sounds like the late, great Elliot Smith fronting The Lemonheads. Girls have crafted some majestic ballads that are at times heart-breaking, often veering into country tinged Americana.
Highlights include the lovely slide guitar of ‘Myma’ and the recent, devastating single ‘Vomit’ with it’s fractured, tortured vocal and searing guitar solo. 7.5/10
