Sanguine
‘Sanguine’

Sanguine released their self titled debut album on February 13th 2012 to rave reviews from the likes of Metal Hammer and Rocksound magazine. Since their formation in 2004 they have gigged steadily but in recent years have received positive feedback from members of Iron Maiden and Slipknot as well as playing Blood stock open air in 2011. After listening to the tracks on this album I can only hope that the good things for Sanguine continue in 2012 and beyond. When female fronted bands are noticed they either get put into the Goth rock category of Lacuna Coil or the pop punk category of Paramore. Sanguine fit neither of these formats, if anything they are a more metal version of Garbage. Tracks such as “Contagious” and “Bangkok Nights” are filled with aggression and powerful hooks that are supported by a background of fast paced rock.
With a unique vocal style going from main vocalists Tarin Kerrey’s soft vocal that is reminiscent to the voice of Karen O from the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s to the aggressive tones of backing vocalist and guitarist Nick Magee. Though completely different both styles marry together perfectly.
If you like something a bit different but pure then Sanguine are more than likely right up your street.
For Fands of Garbage and Kobra and the Lotus. 7/10
