V8 Wankers were formed in Offenbach in 2000 and have been performing their style of sleazy punk rock and roll all across Europe for many years now. In recent years they have had the pleasure to play with bands such as Motorhead and TurboNegro as well as playing the Wakken open air festival in Germany.
These guys are for any rock music fan who likes the normal formulae of a rock and roll band, which is a brash high vocal range, over the top guitar solos and a tight rhythm section. Iron Crossroads is the sixth release by these guys and has been produced by Tommy Newton who is the mastermind behind UFO and Helloween.
The album is produced to a brilliantly high standard that competes with anything that the likes of Rick Reuben and Bob Rock have produced in recent years. From start to finish the album is full of intense rock and roll riffage and in your face hooks.
Unfortunately V8 Wankers style of music has not matured well, and due to slapstick bands such as Steel Panther constantly poking fun at this genre it will be difficult for bands such as V8 Wankers to maintain their credibility. Although this album is of a high standard in the year 2011 it would have been a masterpiece if it was released in 1987 and heard by the youth on the Sunset Strip in L.A. for the first time.
Despite all this credit has to be given to V8 Wankers for making music they enjoy and for the fact they’re having fun in a genre that is full of posers who take themselves far too seriously. Songs such as “Sweet Blood” and “Lone Wolf No Club” have the potential of being driving anthems of the future.
V8 Wankers will appeal to anyone who is a fan of bands such as Motley Crue, W.A.S.P, Ratt as well as more recent rock and roll bands such as The Datsuns and BuckCherry. These guys are not ground breaking, but they are ideal for a rock and roll, punk party piss up. 6/10
