Alex Chilltown – the project led by London-based artist Josh Esaw – has shared their new single “Barely Awake” and announced details of their Rough TradeRecommends show on 5th February 2020. Alex Chilltown’s new album “Eulogies”is released on 24 January 2020 via Fear of Missing Out Records.
Inspired by a short but intense frisson, “Barely Awake” is a burst of luscious
dream pop that features vocals from Flirting’s Poppy Waring. Lead-singer
Josh elaborates on the track:
“The song was originally written about a breakup from years ago, it was a very
short relationship that was very intense but imploded very quickly. It was
sitting around in demos and I’d never really done anything with it because
I wasn’t happy with the arrangement but I started working on it and
accidentally ended up with what we came up with which was much different
than the original stripped back guitar form. I guess now I can look at
it with more hindsight.”
Alex Chilltown will be playing Rough Trade Recommends on 5th
February 2020. Rough Trade Recommends is a monthly night designed
to highlight Rough Trade’s favourite new bands and has featured the
likes of Shame, Goat Girl and Pip Blom.
