An EP of live recordings from THE BEST LIVE SHOW OF ALL TIME*
*Well, that’s what the British music magazine New Musical Express said. 🙂
Today I am releasing “…The Best Live Show Of All Time” —NME, which is an EP containing 6 live tracks, recorded at Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, NY when the American Utopia tour played there this September. The band sounds great and Pete Keppler did an amazing job on the mixes (and our live mix, if you happened to catch the show in your hometown throughout the year).
This EP is available both as a standalone CD and as part of American Utopia (Deluxe Edition)—which is my Grammy-nominated (!) studio album with these 6 live songs included at the end:
– I Zimbra (Live from Kings Theatre, September 2018)
– Every Day Is A Miracle (Live from Kings Theatre, September 2018)
– Everybody’s Coming To My House (Live from Kings Theatre, September 2018)
– This Must Be The Place (Naïve Melody) [Live from Kings Theatre, September 2018]
– Dog’s Mind (Live from Kings Theatre, September 2018)
– Toe Jam (Live from Kings Theatre, September 2018)

The tour has just come to an end; we played our final show in Adelaide on November 25. Our monitor engineer and expert statistician, John Chadwick, kept us updated throughout the tour. His last round of stats prompted our Production Coordinator, Sari Miller, and our Dance Captain, Chris Giarmo, to send their own roundups, as well.
Since the first show on 3rd March the American Utopia Tour has these numbers:
- 61 crew party members.
- 23 Truck drivers.
- 16 band party members.
- 16 Bus drivers.
- 3 traveling promoter reps.
- 7 crew members and 10 band members who have done every show.
- 288 sushi chops executed by DB.
- 1,728 slow surfer poses.
- 51,840 degrees of pinwheel marching.
- 9 mics destroyed by sweat (or more?).
- 7 gusset blows (!).
- 143 times DB was successfully picked up off the floor in “Lifetime” by two people.
- ZERO times DB fell while stumbling backwards on stage in “Lifetime”, even in the rain!
- 24 feet that have been scorched, cut, calloused, and cramped and still made it!
- 144 shows in 268 days.
- 126 different cities in 28 countries.
- 31000 miles travelled by road and 63200 miles travelled by air. Almost 4 times around the equator.
- 20160 AA batteries have not been thrown away due to using a rechargeable system.
- Almost 21 miles of chain have been hung per show. 110,592 feet or 1.7 million links. ish…
- ‘Same as it ever was’ has been said in front of an audience 2304 times.
- 1728 is the number of suit jackets steamed; 1728 shirts have been pressed; Lord knows what happened 1728 times to trousers and undergarments.
- 1368 guitar and bass strings have been used and abused.
- 444 rolls of tape have been used to keep the marley floor in place.
- 4 hazers departed for pastures new.
- San Antonio and Houston backstage areas were only mixed up once.
- Zero people who were on the tour will ever forget it.
