APRE have today dropped brand new track ‘Dreamworld’, which is available now on Beach91/ Polydor Records. Together with new single ‘5 to 5’, ‘Dreamworld’ sets the scene for APREs next EP ‘As The Crow Flies’, which is coming soon.
The band are currently on an extensive tour with Inhaler around Europe and heading into a tour with Friendly Fires and Half•Alive before the year is out, before their own headline tour in the new year (featuring a London date a Scala on February 27th). ‘Dreamworld’ is a driving mix of alternative rock, motorik beats and ethereal, anthemic pop, which – beneath its immersive soundscape – talks of political and emotional dissatisfaction on a more intimate scale. The track precedes APRE’s next single and also arrives alongside a live video filmed at Scala, capturing APRE’s hugely accomplished live show (which will next be seen in London at the same venue).

Over the last year or so, APRE have emerged one of the UK’s most intriguing new bands. True creative brothers, Charlie and Jules appear as inspired by the emotive 80s pop of Tears for Fears as the alternative indie of Foals – often masking darker truths behind the band’s innately massive-sounding songs. With tracks like ‘Dreamworld’, ‘5 to 5’ and summer single ‘Come Down’, the boys have won over audiences nationwide – supporting acts like Sam Fender and Sea Girls along the way – which have taken them far beyond the unlikely origins of APRE: specifically, a West London chess club, where a chance encounter led Charlie and Jules to start writing songs containing the sort of lyrical sentiments they’d seldom voice in public.
If the band increasingly seem to capture times of crisis (emotional, political, generational), part of what makes APRE interesting is the way they engage with the madness. Mixing shrewd lyrical storytelling with occasionally surreal touches, the results are transformed into something universal, positive, and affirming. It’s an attitude that’s gotten APRE this far – imagining a stadium where stands a chess club – and now looks set to take them a whole lot further.
