ART BRUT releases New iPhone & iPad App plus New Video ‘We Make Pop Music’
Then there’s the make a video competition, also don’t forget Art Brut’s special one off London show at Scala May 29th
‘Art Brut are part German part English band. The genre they work in is very honest, guitar based music. They have been around for 10 years, toured the world numerous times and released four albums (the last two produced by the legendary front man of the Pixies, Black Francis).
This App is a recommended companion to their Best Of album, Art Brut Top Of The Pops. Old hippies and idiots who only collect vinyl often complain that album artwork has suffered in recent times due to it not being as readily available in huge 12” pieces of cardboard. Art Brut disagree, we have embraced the future, 12” pieces of cardboard are for squares. Our App – or super futuristic album artwork if you will – contains previews of the songs from Top Of The Pops and includes exclusive comics that were produced for each of the album’s tracks. Unlike a big piece of cardboard you can carry this around in your pocket. Well….in your phone or iPod in your pocket. And on your iPad, which won’t fit in your pocket.
Phone apps are the new 12” pieces of cardboard! Hooray
Enjoy.
Love Art Brut’
The career spanning ‘Best Of Top Of The Pops’ is now available for you to enjoy. However, as if a complete retrospective plus 20 tracks of b-sides and rarities was not enough, these selfless gentlemen and lady also generously recorded and included 2 brand new (amazing) songs as an extra incentive. This all sounds like a lot of hard work, doesn’t it? It’s not all tiaras and private jets, you know. And whilst they managed to syphon the last vestiges of their creative juices into the excellent video montage to accompany ‘We Make Pop Music’. We are left with a glaring hole. We need a video for new earthquake riddled track ‘Arizona Bay’!
Therefore, as it is the 10 year anniversary, we at Art Brut HQ thought it only apt to give you, the loyal fan mass, a chance to contribute to the video pot. We require a film and video prodigy to create something, anything that you think will not only successfully compliment the ear juggernaut of a track but will also win the band a VMA. Not too much to ask we think?
So, if you’re in, simply record the video, upload to youtube and post the link to the Art Brut Facebook wall. The band will then pick the best (VMA optional) and the winner will not only be the official video for the song but the proto-Gondry will also win an Eddie Argos Painting Eddie Argos original painting, plus signed CD and Top of the Pops tshirt. All opuses must be posted by 1st June. Any questions?
So, here’s the song (if you need the mp3, sling me an email at mattreynolds1@me.com I’ll expect a video in return, mind!) –
