Athens math rock duo Art Contest officially return this Friday, June 2nd, with Two Songs, a seventeen track psych-pop opus over two years in the making. Premiered today exclusively via Stereogum, stream Two Songs now and make sure to grab your pre-order here.

Originally scheduled to drop in late 2015, the initial production of Two Songs ran into a bevvy of obstacles, all stemming from an Athens home invasion that left the band without vital equipment and most of their original recordings.

Says guitarist Cole Monroe, “Putting the album together two times over two years has proven to be a challenge and, consequently, it’s the most unique production either of us have ever worked on. Two Songs reflects us, the way we perceive these songs, the world they now live in, and we aim to challenge the concepts of rock music and production with it.”
As Art Contest, Coleman Monroe and Garrett Burke produce the southeast’s most spastic, high-energy, blood-spilling rock music – a messy, indescribable genre that has been referred to as “probability and statistics” rock. A relentless blend of organic and electronic composition, the duo’s live experience channels the volume, energy, and intricacy of a ten-piece auditory assault. Two Songs is the official follow up to the band’s 2014 debut Math Major. With their sophomore release, Art Contest aims to reinvent the concept of math rock and technical music in general – both stylistically and spiritually.
