Athens Intensified – Athens, Georgia October 7th – 10th.
The fourth annual Athens Intensified Festival happens October 7-10, 2015 in downtown Athens, GA. Founded in 2012, Athens Intensified continues to expand its breadth of featured artists while keeping its heart and head solidly within its founding principle of remaining artist driven and “hosted in Athens, welcoming the world.”
To this end over fifty acts will perform this year and we’re proud to announce featured headliners POLARIS (From Nickelodeon’s The Adventures of Pete & Pete) appearing for the first time ever in the south, deeply expressive multi-genre songwriter WILLIS EARL BEAL, Merge Records’ THE LOVE LANGUAGE, Sacred Bones’ no wave/new wave/industrial hardcore bangers POP. 1280, Brooklyn, NY’s BAMBARA, as well as TORO Y MOI, WAVVES, TRY THE PIE,EUREKA CALIFORNIA, GUTS CLUB, TWIN PEAKS, ASTRONAUTS ETC., and multiple local, regional, and national acts. The event takes place club-crawl style throughout various downtown Athens venues.
A primary overarching booking and organizational principle of Athens Intensified is that the we’re actual fans of the bands/artists presented. This keeps us securely rooted in what we do and happily rooting for the artists themselves. To this end, the under-card of Athens Intensified is filled each year with artists spanning the genres of EDM, garage rock, dream pop, roots country, hip-hop, punk, hardcore and more. The way we describe it is “wide in scope but narrow in focus.” That is, we are fans of a broad spectrum of sounds but quite specific in our enthusiasm. We think this year’s lineup is pretty spectacular. Athens Intensified has previously hosted Killer Mike, Cibo Matto, Silver Apples, Andy Rourke (The Smiths), and The Egyptian Lover.
