AUTOHEART DEBUT ALBUM ‘PUNCH’ OUT 15 JULY 2013

Autoheart are pleased to announce the release of their much anticipated debut album ‘Punch’, out 15 July 2013, produced by Danton Supple (Coldplay, Ed Harcourt, Morrissey ) and available to pre-order off iTunes.
Whilst recording the album, the band and Danton all lived together for two weeks in Stockport, Greater Manchester. They stayed in an old converted vicarage filled with retro analogue keyboards and bizarre instruments that mostly didn’t work. Heavy snow outside ensured that there was very little else to do other than eat, drink red wine and record the album. The result was ‘Punch’.
Not only does ‘Punch’ feature new tracks (Factories, Hungover in the City of Dust, and January) it’s also made up of their debut single ‘The Sailor Song’ (160,000+ YouTube views), the piano led pop-single ‘Control’, synth-disco driven ‘Lent’, live-favourite forthcoming single ‘Moscow’, and it’s AA-side ‘Agoraphobia’.
The name of the album came from a lyric on closer track ‘Heartbreaker’, where lead singer Jody sadly sings: “Feels like you have punched me in the chest sadistically”.
Jody goes on to say: “I think it succinctly encapsulates the overarching theme of the album; how love can punch you in the chest or the face or the stomach in good and bad ways. Regardless of its direction or intention, love always has a massive impact on people’s lives and that’s what we wanted to document on this record.”
Like all good stories, Autoheart’s begins at a party in Hackney where Gadsden met Simon Neilson (keys). The pair decided to cover Bronski Beat’s gay anthem ‘Small Town Boy’ and this caught the attention of Barney JC and David Roman, who completed the line-up on guitar and drums respectively.
The band’s debut single, “The Sailor Song” was championed by Radio 2’s Bob Harris and was “Single of the Week” on Shaun Keaveny’s BBC6 Radio show. Radcliffe and Maconie also placed the band’s live version of “The Sailor Song” on their “Best Live Sessions” end of year list. BBC Radio 6 Music DJs Steve Lamacq and Chris Hawkins have also championed the band from early on, with Hawkins describing 3rd single ‘Lent’ as “one of my favourite tracks this year”, with the song also achieving the accolade of Metro’s single of the week.
