I’m happy to announce that Sioux Z (Magnum PR) and I are working together on Copenhagen’s Baby In Vain, who  have just released a disorientating and ferocious blues-sludge single entitled ‘Muscles‘. Despite having an average age of 20, Baby In Vain have amassed acclaim across the globe, sharing stages with the likes of Ty Segall and Thurston Moore, and they just embarked on a two week run opening up for The Kills, plus a few headline shows of their own.

Delivering a stunningly intense show, Dubbed “stupidly exciting” by NME, the three prodigious young musicians are known for their sharp riffs, darkly intense live performances and irresistible dual vocals from Lola Hammerich and Andrea Thuesen. The trio take the templates laid out by the likes of Black Sabbath, MC5 and The Melvins and skew them with youthful, experimental abandon, to create something completely unique and truly invigorating.

‘Muscles’ comes as the band put the finishing touches to their debut album, due for release late 2015. Sludge-driven, confrontational and punk-influenced,  Clash magazine says that ‘Muscles’ is Baby In Vain at their most direct, taut and addictive. Reminiscent of The Melvin, but with the weight of Black Sabbath, ‘Muscles’ was first heard on Baby In Vain’s SoundCloud last month and has been lauded by NME, DIY and Guardian and played by Phil Taggart on BBC Radio 1. They also unveiled the provocative and surreal new video – surrounded by a muscle-bound henchman and a sickening buffet of sugary sweets and seafood, the Danish teenagers take control in this confrontational display of power and sexual energy.

“The track sounds like a visceral combination of Sleater Kinney, Babes in Toyland, and Queens of the Stone Age with boss-ass results. It makes sense, then, that in the video we see the Danish teenagers take control in a camp display of power and sexual energy. It’s like Rocky Horror meets Spring Breakers.” Noisey

Muscles is a bracing splurge of warped riffing and wonky lyrical flurries that sounds quite unlike anything else out there at the moment.” The Guardian

“Sleazier than a red light district day trip led by a particularly randy Eagles of Death Metal, Baby In Vain’s latest single ‘Muscles’ is a caustic leather-rocker, packed with rusty guitar riffs and a knowing, unbridled sauciness.” NME

“What might sound steeped in nostalgia is instead breathlessly pointing forwards.” DIY
