BAIO ANNOUNCES FEBRUARY / MARCH 2016 TOUR DATES

BAIO RELEASES ‘THE NAMES (EXPANSION PACK)’

FEATURING REMIXES FROM MOONLIGHT MATTERS, DJ TENNIS,

SONDRIO, BAILE & SAMUEL PROFFITT

ANNOUNCES FEBRUARY / MARCH 2016 TOUR DATES

Over the past month Grammy Award winning musician Baio has been partnering with worldwide tastemakers to premiere remixes from his debut album ‘The Names’, which was released in September via Glassnote Records. Today, all of the remixes are available on The Names [Expansion Pack]’ on all digital providers.

Indie Shuffle x “I Was Born In A Marathon” (Moonlight Matters Remix)

“… we’re getting our first taste of which artists Chris entrusted his work to and a chance to listen to how awesome it sounds.”

Boiler Room x “All of the Idiots” (DJ Tennis Remix)

For 8.5 minutes, we let Tennis take us on a journey, dominated by inverted chord progressions and squelchy acid sounds…”

Earmilk x ‘Brainwash Yyrr Face’ (Sondrio Remix)

“The chopped, pitched-up vocals were one of the best parts about the original, and the way they translate into Sondrio’s remix is brilliant.”

Greenroom x ‘Brainwash Yyrr Face’ (BAILE Remix)

“Using with fine detail and textures of the original piece, I wanted to do a remix that infuses a melancholic atmosphere while maintaining a good beat, with a housy groove.”

Blah Blah Blah Science x “Sister of Pearl’ (Samuel Proffitt Remix)

“Proffitt reduces down “Sister of Pearl” to its most fundamental rudiments, it’s melody and cadence and focuses them through a setting of spare piano and spacious instrumentation.”

Baio will hit the road this December in support of the album playing a handful of shows in Mexico and will open for CHVRCHES at The Fonda Theatre in LA on December 14th as part of ALT 98.7’s 1st ever concert series ‘ALTimate December to Remember!’ Moving straight into 2016, Baio is excited to announce a North American & European headlining tour where he will hit major cities in Canada, The U.S. and Europe. About Baio

Since 2006, Baio has been known as the bass-player in Vampire Weekend, the New York-based rock band who last year won a Grammy for their third album, Modern Vampires of the City.  In his downtime between tours, however, Baio recognized in himself an increasing restlessness, a desire to explore his own individual voice away from the band.  Baio has released a string of EPs (Mira EP, Sunburn EP) having amassed critical praise from the likes of Pitchfork, Pretty Much Amazing, Spin, Paste and more!

The Names, Baio’s self produced debut album, explores ideas of space — of belonging, identity and finding a place in the world.  It was influenced by his own geographical shift — having recently moved to London, he found himself struck by his new city’s expanse of sky, green space, and globalness — elements that infuse the record’s sound. The album was released on September 18th via Glassnote Records and was lead by debut track ‘Sister of Pearl,’ that of which was performed on NBC’s Late Night With Seth Meyers on the eve of release. Across its nine tracks Baio wanted to return in part to the electronic music he’d enjoyed while DJing at college, but also to investigate his own lyrical and vocal style to create something quite new and not easily categorized.

Praise for The Names:

His reflective electropop style meditates with similar sounds as !!! or Hot Chip” – SPIN

“Its straightforward and easygoing feel is elevated by a stuttering, harpsichord-sounding synth that lends the track an unusual, unexpected energy”  – Pitchfork

The Names is a place where Baio splices and distorts myriad clicks, rattles, and yelps like a mad scientist, moulding them into dance-pop vignettes. – Vice, Noisey

“Baio combines reckless abandon with infectious introspection.” – DIY Magazine
