Biffy Clyro – March 20th – Metro Radio Arena, Newcastle, UK

Over the years I have seen Biffy Clyro grow and grow with every album. They don’t just progress, they go above and beyond with every album release to which some fans have been put off by where as others have embraced this. If they released their debut album Blackened Sky over and over again “true fans” would complain that they weren’t progressing. Come on guys, wind your fucking necks in.

Whilst sitting at work I was offered a ticket at face value due to a friends partner being unable to attend the gig. Needless to say I jumped at the chance and knocked my flask of coffee all over my desk in excitement. At the turn of 5pm I rushed home and then back out to the arena.

I unfortunately missed little comets but after a few beers and a quick stop off to pick up some nicotine death sticks I arrived at the arena fifteen minutes before Biffy hit the stage. I looked across the crowd and noticed that not only have Biffy changed in style over the years but that the same goes for their fans.

A mixture of well dressed people who seem to be on “date nights” are mixed with people who look like bags of shit tied in the middle like myself. I don’t have much time to judge the crowd though as Biffy Clyro then don the stage.

The next two hours are filled with golden oldies as well as a lot of their new album which I am yet to hear from start to finish yet. The sound may not be amazing with it being the Metro Radio Arena but never the less Biffy Clyro give it their all and are paid back with the crowd singing every word back at these three jocks.

Songs such as Bubbles and The Captain come over well but you can tell the people who have followed Biffy Clyro for years and those who think the band are new to the scene, despite being on their sixth album by the amount of people who go to either the bar or the piss pot during songs like Glitter and Trauma and Just Boy.

All in all Biffy Clyro have definitely made it in the big time and I for one am thrilled. It shows that a hard working band who have always done what they wanted can make it in what is currently a corrupt music industry. I’m now off to purchase the new album.

Over and out. 9/10
