Big Noble announce debut album and share video

BIG NOBLE SHARE FIRST LIGHT ALBUM DETAILS AND ‘PEG’ VIDEO

A COLLABORATION BETWEEN INTERPOL’S DANIEL KESSLER AND SOUND DESIGNER JOSEPH FRAIOLI

DEBUT ALBUM RELEASED 2ND FEBRUARY 2015; ARTWORK & TRACKLISTING REVEALED

Big Noble, an ongoing collaboration between Interpol’s Daniel Kessler and sound designer Joseph Fraioli, will release their debut album First Light on 2nd February 2015 on their imprint Affiliates Sound, via Kobalt Label Services. This digital-only release illustrates the synergistic potential of popular music and sound design, a combination of improvisational guitar, field recordings, and manipulations using modular synthesizers and boutique effects units.

The origins of Big Noble can be traced to New York City in 1999, when Kessler – then label manager for experimental electronic label Caipirinha – met Fraioli upon his signing to the label for his debut album under the alias Datach’i. As the two moved on, Fraioli released ten critically acclaimed albums and founded the company Jafbox Sound, which specializes in providing immersive sound design for advertising and film; Kessler formed the band Interpol, and has released five albums while touring worldwide as their guitarist and songwriter.

In 2008, Fraioli enlisted Kessler to provide source material for a film project. The result bridged Kessler’s unmistakable guitar sounds with Fraioli’s tonal textures in a web of enveloping melancholia, and spawned the formation of Big Noble. Fraioli describes the intentions of Big Noble as “immersive and perspective-changing…sonically a lot of the arrangements feel technically vast, but there’s an intimacy that I hope listeners will find addictive to escape within.”
A gorgeous piece of music in its own right, ‘Peg’ and its accompanying video also reflect Big Noble’s integration of sound and place. As in the recording sessions, Big Noble would love it if the outer sounds of the real world seep through the listener’s experience. Hear and watch it here.
