Biig Piig has today premiered brand new single ‘This Is What They Meant’, which received its first play as Radio 1’s Hottest Record. This comes alongside news of Biig Piig’s debut mixtape, Bubblegum: due for release on January 20th via RCA, the project was introduced recently with suitably-explosive first track, ‘Kerosene’. Biig Piig’s surprise, intimate shows in London and Dublin also sold out immediately for November, heralding the live return of one of the UK’s most singular young talents.

Soulful and atmospheric, ‘This Is What They Meant’ sees Biig Piig in confessional mood on the dancefloor (“This is what they meant when they said / that I could be selfish / I couldn’t help it”). It’s a nocturnal but affecting banger about, says Biig Piig, “experiencing the city through someone else’s eyes, and wanting to stay in that moment regardless of the consequences.”

Seizing that moment – whatever the highs or lows it may lead you towards – has long been Biig Piig’s superpower. And on debut mixtape Bubblegum, Biig Piig brings together such fleeting moments into a brand new chapter of her incredible story to date. Surreal, colourful but bitingly honest, the first flavour of Bubblegum arrived in the form of recent track ‘Kerosene’. Twisting Biig Piig’s own spin on dance music with easter-egg imagery surrounding the key places in her life, here was a “hot girl summer” anthem of lust and release, laying the foundation for the longer Biig Piig project to come.

Biig Piig is one of modern pop’s genuine one-offs, a fearless artist who has come of age across a period of experimentation and self-evaluation. From the trilogy of DIY EPs she dropped as a teenager to her longstanding work with traiblazing crew NiNE8 Collective, Biig Piig has moved between genres and even continents – she now lives between London and Los Angeles – with songs that speak effortlessly of youth culture. Along the way, Biig Piig has grown a vast global audience for her instantly-identifiable, bilingual voice: with over 200 million streams, and wider co-signs ranging from Billie Eilish and Virgil Abloh to Lil Nas X, and tours alongside the likes of Glass Animals and Jungle. Like much of her hugely eclectic – but remarkably consistent – catalogue to date, there is a more introspective side to Biig Piig than may meet the eye: beneath its disco hedonism, the lyrical candour of ‘This Is What They Meant’ suggests someone who has taken the time to work out who she is, what she wants, but as ever with Biig Piig, leaves you questioning where she may head next.

An undeniable star now coming into her own as an artist and young woman, watch out for more from Biig Piig and Bubblegum to follow soon.
