Bing & Ruth, the shape-shifting North American collective led by composer and pianist David Moore, will perform at London’s Jazz Café in celebration of Nils Frahm’s Piano Day on March 29th, 2018.

Performing solo, Moore will join a line-up that features a one-off collaboration between Andreas Belfi and Sebastian Plano, and an exclusive performance by dancer/choreographer Mikey Ureta (a member of ZooNation: The Kate Prince Company).

To celebrate the occasion, Bing & Ruth have shared the solo recordings of their recent album, No Home of the Mind. David Moore writes, “When we finished the recording sessions that became ‘No Home of the Mind’ I sent the band home to reconnect with their respective partners/pets/bongs and stayed behind to secretly record a solo piano version of the whole record. So today I’m sharing it with all of you lovely inboxheads. Honestly pretty proud of how it came out.”

Piano Day was launched in 2015 by composer Nils Frahm and takes place on the 88th day of each year. Piano Day is an open opportunity for people around the world to celebrate the instrument. “Why does the world need a Piano Day? For many reasons. But mostly, because it doesn’t hurt to celebrate the piano and everything around it: performers, composers, piano builders, tuners, movers, and most important, the listener.” – Nils Frahm.

Operating since 2006 with Moore at its nucleus, Bing & Ruth’s third album No Home of the Mind was composed on seventeen pianos across North America and Europe. After a year of composition and with everything meticulously rehearsed in advance, it was recorded in two days and with the fewest takes possible in an attempt to recreate the immediacy of classic session-style musicianship, where one-take recordings were the standard to keep costs down. Released in early 2017, it explored the piano’s percussive qualities alongside running woodwinds, warbling tape delays and splattered upright bass lines that stare out with a wide-eyed transcendence. A 3-track EP, Dorsal, containing songs written and recorded alongside No Home of the Mind, was released a few months later.
