With Guitars starts it’s Film coverage with news of one gem of a movie, with the news that a new Blade Runner 30th Anniversary Collector’s Edition is to be released, see below for some interesting extras.
Warner Bros. has announced that it will be releasing a 30th Anniversary Collector’s Edition of Ridley Scott‘s ground-breaking Sci-fi masterpiece Blade Runner. The news comes from a photo (below) released on the official Blade Runner Facebook page which states that the release date will be October 2nd 2012. As the studio has previously released an Ultimate Collector’s briefcase edition, it will be interesting to see what this new edition will offer to differentiate itself from the existing version. I’m hopeful that there will be new extras and better packaging than the standard 5 disc amaray case currently available. We will continue to monitor this release and will post updates as further details emerge. Check out the announcement image and tentative artwork below and stay tuned for more information!
Blade Runner has already been released on Blu-ray several times, including the Final Cut edition and the five-disc Complete Collector’s Edition. That being said, it’s no surprise that they’re dipping into the well again to commemorate the anniversary. This new anniversary set will hit shelves on October 23rd. Whether it’s worth dropping $65 to get this new version will pretty much come down to whether you want the extra goodies. Here’s the official description:
In celebration of its 30th anniversary, Warner Home Video (WHV) will end the film’s moratorium with the debut of a beautiful new commemorative 4-Disc Blu-ray™ + DVD Combo Pack which also includes an Ultra Violet (UV) copy of The Final Cut feature. This comprehensive gift set edition includes The Final Cut version of the feature presented on both Blu-ray and DVD, as well as the other four versions: 1992 Director’s Cut, Domestic and International Theatrical versions, and the rare Workprint feature version previously only available in the 25thAnniversaryUltimate Collector’s Edition. The set also boasts never-before-seen production photos with more than 1,000 archival images presented in hi-definition, a 72-page production art book with printed versions of the newly discovered art, a collectible Spinner car replica from an official concept sketch conceived by Blade Runner’s visual futurist Syd Mead, and collectible motion lenticular card. In addition, included are all 10+ hours of bonus content from the critically acclaimed 2007 Ultimate Collector’s Edition.
Oh, and there is the small matter of Blade Runner 3D even visiting your local cinema, we hope.
Even a remixed and re-tweaked soundtrack theme…
