BOHREN & DER CLUB OF GORE RELEASE PIANO NIGHTS ON FEB. 3 VIA IPECAC

Dec. 6, 2013, San Francisco – Bohren & Der Club of Gore, the German quartet Pitchfork described as “the gentlest black metal band on earth,” release their eighth album, Piano Nights, via Ipecac on Feb. 3.

Inspired by a Bohren concert where Christoph Clöser was playing a selection of the outfit’s music on a grand piano in Moscow, “out of boredom, more than anything,” said Clöser, the nine-song release was recorded at Dark Victory Studios in Cologne, Germany.  Piano Nights is self-described as a return to the band’s roots, albeit based on complex arrangements and a broader palette of sound.

Piano Nights track listing:

1.     Im Rauch

2.     Bei rosarotem Licht

3.     Fahr zur Hölle

4.     Irrwege

5.     Ganz leise kommt die Nacht

6.     SegeIn ohne Wind

7.     Unrasiert

8.     Verloren (alles)

9.     Komm zurück zu mir

Bohren & Der Club of Gore was founded in 1992 in Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany by Thorsten Benning, Morten Gass, Robin Rodenberg and Reiner Henseleit.  Originally, the group members started out playing in various hardcore bands such as 7 Inch Boots and Chronical Diarrhoea.  In 1992 they produced a jazz/ambient crossover, which they self-described as an “unholy ambient mixture of slow jazz ballads, Black Sabbath doom and down tuned Autopsy sounds.”  Henseleit left the band in 1996 and was replaced by composer and saxophone player Christoph Clöser in 1997, resulting in 2000’s Fender Rhodes-heavy album Sunset Mission.  After a brief hiatus, the same lineup returned and has been highly productive since, releasing five albums (four of which were released via Ipecac Recordings) in the last dozen years: Black Earth, Geisterfaust, Dolores, Mitleid Lady and Beileid, which features a vocal track by Mike Patton.
