OXFORD ART FACTORY, SYDNEY
AUGUST 9, 2017
20:00 – 23:45 AEST
Budweiser x Boiler Room bring the global “Discover What’s Brewing” series to Sydney, with headliner TOKiMONSTA, alongside Machinedrum, BV & Aywy.
Wednesday, August 2 [Sydney]: Boiler Room & Budweiser today shine a spotlight on Sydney’s burgeoning electronic music scene as they announce the next location for their global music discovery series, Budweiser x Boiler Room Discover What’s Brewing.
Broadcast live from Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory on Wednesday August 9, the program – which pairs international DJs with up-and-coming artists in their local cities – will be headlined by Los Angeles DJ and producer TOKiMONSTA, alongside fellow Californian Machinedrum and Sydney locals, BV and Aywy.
Acting as tour guides, TOKiMONSTA and Machinedrum will introduce and expose Sydney’s vibrant new music communities to the world, seeing BV and Aywy tell their stories on a global level, all broadcasted live around the world.
Ahead of her impending third full-length album Lune Rouge, TOKiMONSTA will bring her unique blend of contemporary & classic styles of electronic, dance and hip-hop to Australia. Known for her sets at festivals like Barcelona’s Sonar, LA’s Coachella and Burning Man in the Nevada Desert, her collaborations with Anderson .Paak, Jessie Ware and releases on Flying Lotus’ imprint Brainfeeder, prepare for TOKiMONSTA to take hold of Sydney.
Angeleno counterpart, Machinedrum holds a strong fanbase worldwide with his melodic fuse of daring beat and vocal pair-ups, that has seen everyone from Pitchfork to Billboard discussing his euphoric, genre-bending sound. Last year, Machinedrum released his highly awaited Human Energy LP via Ninja Tune, and now makes a special return visit to Sydney for Discover What’s Brewing.
For the past six years, electronic trio BV have formulated club tools to fit their unbridled, highly followed live appearances. Percussion heavy tracks known for their unrelenting intensity and placements on outlets like XLR8R, FACT & THUMP, see BV placed at the forefront of Sydney’s club, pop and experimental DIY communities. Born from individual esteemed side-projects, Toronto-born Lavurn Lee (also Cassius Select, Fake), Jarred Beeler (DJ Plead) and Marcus Whale (Collarbones) – the BV trio will lead the local contingent, representing some of Sydney’s best musical minds. Following their recent self-titled mixtape release, the hard-working trio return to Boiler Room for Discover What’s Brewing.
Rounding out Discover What’s Brewing, is Sydney producer Aywy. Otherwise known as Ananthu Nair, Aywy is co-founder of Soundcloud-born record label and collective, Flow-Fi. From the ground upwards, Aywy has spread his swinging, bass-heavy compositions across the globe, drawing the attention of BBC Radio 1, Pigeons and Planes and Complex along the way. A self-starter with an official remix for Goldlink and a co-signed Maxwell edit under his belt, Awywy is ready to bring to his hip-hop tempered house re-works, and darker-shaded trap flirting bangers to Boiler Room.
Boiler Room x Budweiser’s Discover What’s Brewing event series has spotlighted some of the globe’s most iconic DJs and burgeoning artists on-the-rise — across a diverse mix of scenes and subcultures in city locations all over the world.
Since its debut in July 2016, the series has seen shows in Mumbai, Santiago, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Belgium, Seoul, Hanoi, Denver, Rio and Miami. Artists like Danny Tenaglia, Josh Wink, Oscar G and Lazaro Casanova have dedicated their nights to exploring the foundations of US house and techno; hip-hop icon Jazzy Jeff took to the decks in Philadelphia; Fractal Fantasy founders and audiovisual savants Zora Jones & Sinjin Hawke were the focus in Bengaluru as well as footwork star Jlin, and Indian electronica acts like Kumail and Aerate Sound.
Don’t miss the Sydney debut of Discover What’s Brewing as Boiler Room & Budweiser pair some of the city’s brightest leaders of their scene, with the globally adored TOKiMONSTA and Machinedrum.
