Bow Anderson has today shared brand new track ‘Watching Her Heartbreak’, which is available now on Universal Music / EMI UK. This follows the Edinburgh-born, London-based songwriter’s new single ‘Dear Body’, viral single ‘20s’ – which has surpassed 50 million streams – ahead of more from Bow to follow soon.
If ‘Dear Body’ served as an apology-letter to the body, ‘Watching Her Heartbreak’ sees Bow Anderson extend her compassionate songwriting outwards – the sweeping, piano-led ballad is dedicated to a lifelong friend whose relationship has just fallen apart. “My best friend in the whole wide world that I’ve known since I was 4 years old went through a really difficult break-up,” recalls Bow. “She stayed at mine for 3 days straight and I felt so helpless watching her cry all day and night. I tried to tell her with time it would get better but she couldn’t see it. This song is an appreciation to best friends who support each other through thick and thin. Tell your friends how much you love them.”
In the last year or so, Bow Anderson has taken her positive sound into increasingly unguarded but ultimately empowering territory. ‘Dear Body’ was a powerful, 80s-leaning tribute to your image, self-worth, and inner-strength, picking up a confessional-steak from viral hit ‘20s’: uploaded on Christmas Eve as an idea – and sound – she was trying it out at the time, the track blew up online with support across Radio 1, Spotify’s Viral Charts, millions of TikTok views & 30 weeks on the German Airplay charts. Bow Anderson first burst onto the scene with 2020’s ‘Sweater’, earning widespread plaudits and millions of streams despite dropping the very day the world went into lockdown. Still, keeping calm and carrying on is true of Bow’s unorthodox entry-point into music: as a teenager she trained in competitive trampolining, working with gymnasts who would go on to be part of Team GB before a freak accident ended her sporting career, but opened up a life in music. Since debut EP New Wave, Anderson has scooped the Best Pop Act prize at the prestigious Scottish Music Awards, supported the likes of Mimi Webb, Tom Walker and Ella Eyre, and collaborated with MTV and Adidas Originals whilst working on new material to follow.
Whether discussing a ‘20s’ crisis or the helplessness of ‘Watching Her Heartbreak’, Bow Anderson’s obstacles (romantic, physical or generational) increasingly sound like a source of strength.
