Breton on tour with Local Natives Release ‘Got Well Soon’ November 10th 2013
Breton have announced the release of their new single ‘Got Well Soon’, due out 10th November 2013 on the band’s own imprint label Cut Tooth, through Believe Recordings. It’s taken from their second album which is scheduled for release in February 2014.
‘Got Well Soon’ is a dark, dirty monster of a track built around a pulsing synth. Lyrically it’s about inclusivity and its flipside. Peer pressure to fit in or go it alone – be in the gang or be rejected. This theme is reflected in the video, a short, disturbing film that was originally made for Breton’s show at the BFI in January this year as part of the British Short Film Festival.
The song was recorded, along with the whole album, at Funkhaus Studios, a series of buildings – some now abandoned – in Berlin. They housed 3,000 communist workers who used to write and broadcast propoganda in the form of news, drama and music to the entire Eastern Bloc. It was also the home of the Communist Youth radio station.
Breton lost their HQ, The Lab, a disused bank in Elephant & Castle where their critically acclaimed debut album ‘Other People’s Problems’ was written and recorded, in September 2012 when in was demolished to make way for luxury flats. They tried recording in different studios in London but none felt right and at the end of some dates in Eastern Europe they decided to drive to Berlin, a city Breton have always felt an affinity with. As soon as they discovered Funkhaus they knew this was their new creative home.
