Bryde – ‘Wait’

Bryde is a Brixton-based girl and an electric guitar singing fierce and fragile songs about entangling and unraveling.

Like the soundtrack to a psychological thriller, debut single ‘Wait’ is as sinister and uneasy as it is hauntingly beautiful. Taken from an as yet untitled collection of songs, everything, including the cover, reflects the concept of a ‘mirage-like relationship’.

“The cover shot was just a little snap shot taken at home for Instagram but it came to symbolise the music. Everyone thinks it is a tin of black paint when actually it’s a shallow tin of shoe polish. That deception is exactly the kind of relationship I want these songs convey.” – Bryde

Drawing influence from the likes of PJ Harvey and Sharon Van Etten, and with nods to Daughter and The xx, ‘Wait’ washes over with self-assurance yet feels as if it could crumble away at any moment: a wonderful demonstration of the power and vulnerability a song can hold in equal measure, particularly impressive here with such few elements at work.

Next show: 11th Dec – St Giles in Fields, Central London
