Butterfly Fan The Inferno – ‘Sunset Scavangers / I Coma’ (BFTI Records)

Butterfly Fan The Inferno have been around in one form or another for a while now and have had some recent success whilst touring the US with bands like, And So I Watch From Afar and Band of Skulls. The band are now looking to gain more success in the UK than recent years with their double A-side single ‘Sunset Scavangers / I Coma’.

‘Sunset Scavangers’ is a track that is driven by the guitar, without the guitar I doubt I would like much about this. The vocals just come across as flat and lazy. However, while Jase Holgate’s voice in no way drives the song it still has something appealing about it and the more I listen to the song the more the I feel the singer has more to offer. The song is a solid effort and shows that the band has talent, but it’s not one that will get you excited.

‘I Coma’ is a different animal all together; the song is a more upbeat effort. The drums are more present on this track and the vocals have an edgier feel to them and really push the song along. The Guitar is excellent and compliments the feel of the song perfectly. This is the song that will keep this release on you iPod or in your CD player and I hope this is a sign of things to come from this band.

This is a solid release that will leave you wanting more from the band, and I hope we get more soon because I have an itch that is telling me the band has a lot more to offer. Personally I would like to see more songs like ‘ I Coma’ and the more upbeat side to band. 6/10
