‘IF THEY DON’T KNOW’ ARRIVES AMIDST UK TOUR DATES
THE NEW SINGLE – OUT 16th OCTOBER
Heralded by some of the UK’s most respected musos as talented purveyors of truly fresh sounds, Leicester six-piece By The Rivers clearly believe in good things coming to those who wait. Hence their new single arriving almost two years after the outfit’s last album, 2013’sVulture.
Not that they have been resting on any laurels since we last encountered them. Having established themselves as the most talked about ska, hip hop, reggae and afrobeat band in the land, during the time that has passed between said long player and latest offering, If They Don’t Know, the gentlemen in question have headlined hugely respected festivals like Shambala, Nozstock and Larmer Tree, and set up their own label, For The People, on which this autumn’s track finds a home for itself.
Again there’s the same vital concoction of tones, genres and sounds, brought together to create an intoxicating sonic brew that’s hooks the listener in and gets the head nodding, demanding that feet move and hips shake. As funky as it is raw, not to mention uncompromising, the players responsible are supporting the release with a host of dates across England and Wales, whilst a new set of EPs is waiting in the wings, ready to make 2016 the troupe’s finest 12 months yet. Much more than simply another one to watch, the return of By The Rivers is rightly being celebrated as exactly what the oft-bland, frequently by numbers music scene has been crying out for. Say no more then.
