Cable35: Come Down To Party!
As the joint tour between Valentiine and Cable35 concludes with a London show, Jamie Gambino spoke to the Maltese rock trio about relocating to the UK and why audiences supporting live music and attending gigs by upcoming artists has never been so important.
Where does the name Cable35 come from?
It refers to the bus we used to catch to get to the practice room, it doesn’t exist anymore now!
Why move from Malta to base yourself in the UK?
Doing shows in Malta is cool, it’s always a great night but unfortunately it’s a small place and we can’t be playing shows every week and we want to play every week so we decided to make the move and come to play in the UK and Europe, there’s so much more land here!
You found Valentiine on YouTube, what made you decide to tour Europe with them?
When we contacted Valentiine they mentioned they want to tour in Europe so we offered to help out! And they rock so thanks to the internet we made great new friends.
You are extremely, dedicated to making music and playing live shows, what do you love about being on tour?
We love most of the stuff that happens on tour I guess that’s why we keep doing it! I hate the fact the the van is a massive fuel sponge
What are your plans for 2013?
Keep on touring regularly, maybe get out of Europe for a couple of shows somewhere else in the world, Australia? Vietnam? Grow a new beard?
Do you have plans to record a follow up to ‘Louder’ your debut album?
We have a couple of new songs, so that leads to recording
If you could get ANYONE to produce album number two who would you choose & why?
We never thought about that, we’ve always recorded in the same studio in Malta and we’re happy there, plus it’s next to the beach. A beach makes a difference.
What are your influences as a band?
Colourful things with crazy looks!
Cable35 Grunge Mix Tape:
Pixies – Something Against You
Ramones – Gotta a lot to say
Fugazi – Life and Limb
Nirvana – Tourette’s
Grandaddy – 50%
NOFX – Kill Rockstars
Pavement – Embassy row
Millionaire – Champagne
Valentiine – Love Like
Male Bonding – All Things This Way
What can people expect from a Cable35 gig?
A louder gig!
The ‘Tour On Tick’ is nearly over, what has been your favourite show of the tour so far?
It’s already at the end? The Doncaster show in The Vintage Rockbar was awesome, and we’re really enjoying the shows in Holland and Belgium. Most of the shows were really cool.
Some of the shows have not been supported as well as they should have been, how does that feel and why is it so important for an audience to attend gigs by up & coming artists like yourself and Valentiine?
It feels a bit weird since we put loads of work to plan a tour and play it. Then it’s up to the audience to attend the gigs and support bands. It’s all about having fun.
Not many bands tour together these days, would you do it again?
We’re not planning on stopping.
Cable35 and Valentiine finish their tour with a gig at London’s Boston Arms Monday 29th October
