Groves are a South London band who live in Peckham. They originally formed in Manchester at the start of 2015, and after an early flurry, the band spent a year playing live without even thinking about recording, adamant that they wanted to find their sound naturally before committing anything to tape.

This period saw the band throw a string of warehouse parties, aptly titled ‘Late Night Grooves’ that they hosted in a local railway arch. They would play firstly live, which was often a more ethereal and restrained experience, before then playing house and techno records all night. This balance of the subtle and well rendered live instrumentation and the more visceral and nocturnal electronic elements became pivotal to their sound.

Newly signed to [PIAS] Different Recordings, ‘Do You Feel’ is the first glimpse of recordings the band have made in a quest to capture that feel. It’s an immensely textured release; some of which can be accredited to rich variety of analogue equipment utilised during the recordings, “We use a lot of analogue gear. We like working with tape delays and real reverbs. Without wanting to sound horribly clichéd, they just provide warmth and make things more approachable… It’s really important to us that the songs feel human” frontman Nick Hayes says of the group’s approach.

As the story spread of the incredible Groves live experience, bookings at key tastemaker festivals such as Midi Festival in France and The Great Escape UK followed.

Groves are soon to announce a string of UK dates for the Autumn to accompany the release.
