Chinese-American techno artist HELANG ks off AAPI Month with HILOMATIK Debut “Hits Different”

May 2nd, 2025 | Rising Chinese-American producer and DJ HELANG kicks off Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month with her powerful new techno offering “Hits Different,” landing May 2nd on HILOMATIK, Oliver Heldens’ techno-focused sub-imprint of Heldeep Records. The track showcases HELANG’s signature blend of deep, driving rhythms and atmospheric textures, further cementing her position as an innovative force in the underground electronic scene.

“Hits Different” arrives as a significant milestone, not only as HELANG’s debut on the prestigious HILOMATIK imprint but also as a celebration of her cultural heritage during AAPI Heritage Month. As a Chinese-American artist carving her path in a historically male-dominated genre, HELANG continues to bring her authentic perspective to every aspect of her artistry.

Speaking on the release, HELANG shares “I feel like I always am, but especially lately, living life through a lens of discovery, adventure, and seduction. When I sit down and write music, I am the most inspired by how I feel connected to the art of mystery. The small things that can make us get up and dance and be ourselves is the core purpose of my craft, and “Hits Different” is an attestment of that. It’s a really powerful feeling when you listen to a certain song and it can bring back so many nostalgic feelings whether they remind you of a memory or person.”

The single follows the success of her ‘Flashback‘ EP released via HE.SHE.THEY. Records earlier this year, which received warm reception from outlets including Billboard Dance and METAL Magazine. Her recent performances have included standout appearances at E1, Teksupport NYE, Brooklyn Storehouse, and Echostage DC,sharing stages with industry titans such as Amelie Lens, Nicole Moudaber, and Eric Prydz.

Since launching her own imprint Dauntless Records in 2023, HELANG has maintained full creative control while pushing boundaries in electronic music. She recently hosted the second edition of her female-only, Brooklyn-based event showcase for Dauntless, further highlighting her commitment to creating inclusive spaces within the scene. Her uncompromising productions continue to earn support from electronic music’s elite, including Maceo Plex, Marco Faraone, Richie Hawtin, and Joseph Capriati, and has garnered attention from influential media outlets including DJ Mag, Forbes, Beatportal, Mixmag Brasil.

HILOMATIK is the dark side of Heldeep Records, featuring anything techno. With releases from prolific artists such as HI-LO, Hardwell, Space 92, Armin van Buuren and Eli Brown, HILOMATIK has swiftly become one of the mainstay labels in techno, with Oliver Heldens at the helm.

As HELANG continues to ascend through the ranks of techno’s most exciting talents, she remains dedicated to amplifying her authentic self and cultural heritage, challenging norms and inspiring a new generation of artists. With each release and performance, she embodies the integrity, passion, and fearless spirit that have become hallmarks of her artistic identity.
