Cinemawave claim to have ‘the finest collection of rocknroll songs to have been written this decade’ that may be true, but then why not put at least one of those tracks onto this record?
That seems a bit harsh as ‘Can You Hear The Silence’ isn’t a totally awful album but it is largely a misfire.
‘Rocket Science’ hurtles along at breakneck pace with it’s sneering gnarled vocal, imagine Oasis if Liam and Noel obsessed over Echo & The Bunnymen rather than The Beatles.
‘Desert Storm’ is pure Kasabian lad rock, a perfect soundtrack to a pilled up Lynx effect night out.
It is current single ‘Monsoon Love’ where things begin to really fall apart. This is half of a brilliant song, crippled by a needlessly sing along chorus. By track four ‘The Future’ the penny finally drops and all those references you couldn’t quite place soon become evident, with it’s Stereophonics by numbers arrangement.
If they hadn’t had such an eye on mass appeal and it’s accompanying commercial success than this record could have been a more enjoyable experience. As it is I don’t understand the need for a new Stereophonics, I didn’t see the need for the original. 6/10
