Caution: cute but bites. After leading London’s club revival with her maximalist pop sound, Coupdekat announces her long-awaited debut album Goodbye 2012! Out August 7th. Coloured by neon, shopping trips at Claire’s Accessories, MySpace and nerd glasses (no lenses), the album is more than just a visual throwback. It’s an evocation of online optimism: a tribute to the utopian promise of the early internet – having fun and expressing yourself without invasive algorithms, commercialisation and the need to perform for an imagined audience.

Sharing the vision behind the album, Coupdekat shares: “I wanted this album to be a return to a time before having a phone and social media, before the self-awareness and pressure of being perceived. I missed the freedom and spontaneity of girlhood, I was so much more confident expressing myself back then. I wanted Goodbye 2012! to feel like a return to that moment in time. I made the album in New York, and being away from London and crossing the boundary into a new world let me embrace that spontaneity and fun I was looking for.”

She announces the album with new track ‘kisses‘, a sparkling, minimal pop beat produced by Cowboy Lansky (Lil Yachty, After, MGNA Crrrta) which draws on visceral textures in the vein of SOPHIE with experimental beatboxing inspired by Copenhagen band haloplus+. Inspired by Richard Linklater’s Before Sunrise trilogy, it captures the thrill of meeting someone but knowing that your time together is fleeting; living in the moment and living with the knowledge it will all come to an end.

Speaking on the story behind the track, Coupdekat shares: “‘kisses’ is about wanting to enjoy your time with someone but feeling this inevitable countdown when you’ll have to leave and go back to your ordinary life. I was leaving New York for LA, looking through all the memories on my digital camera. It was hard to leave but my heart was full. I sampled the sounds of the camera – turning on, turning off, the flash, the buttons – with pen taps and glitches. I wanted it to feel almost like ASMR in the way you feel very, very close to someone. But lyrically, it’s about the reality of leaving them.”

Goodbye 2012! also a love letter to pop music at its most disruptive. The album shares a musical DNA with the likes of Fcukers, Bassvictim, Underscores, but it also has a strong narrative of recollections of a lost girlhood tinged with an ultramodern, coming-of-age anxiety unique to her generation. The title is a reference to the beloved YouTube timecapsule Goodbye 2010! – a return to an online innocence.

Coupdekat’s sound is a pop sugar rush drawing on an internet’s worth of influences and swayed by the attitude of Lily Allen, M.I.A and Basement Jaxx. Her instinct for hooks that get under your skin, addictive melodies and shape-shifting production which pushes pop to its extremes has elevated further than ever with ‘i still think about the band’ which commenced a new era. Combing through her Facebook archives, the artwork is a selfie taken with a friend at Claire’s Accessories complete with neon nerd glasses: an evocation of nostalgia while the track, effervescent and eruptive, stares down an unstable future.

Emerging in 2021, Coupdekat became a defining figure in the UK pop scene through co-founding the female and gender-inclusive collective Loud LDN. Her 2026 releases are the successor to the electronic pop experimentalism of 2025’s EP BLOW HER UP AND SHE’LL BURST and the fizzy 5-track adventure the world she created / inside of her pocket*. This year, Coupdekat is ready to fill the floor with pop music that captures your memories and wildest daydreams.
